Bahrain’s Investcorp has launched a new climate solutions investment platform to address decarbonization and climate change.
The company said it will launch the platform in collaboration with Bahrain sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat and other Bahrain-based institutions.
Executive Chairman Mohamed Araldi said tackling climate change is a global challenge and there is a clear role for the private sector in financing decarbonisation.
Investcorp said its newly launched platform will identify opportunities for private capital investment in decarbonizing companies that address the impacts of climate change and accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon economy.
We will also focus on deploying and rapidly scaling climate solutions across carbon management, buildings, transportation, and food and agriculture.
“Investcorp believes that a further important aspect of its fundamental investment strategy is to mobilize the commercial scale-up of such solutions, making much-needed decarbonization products and services attractive to the Global South. We believe this comes from the recognition that we will be able to offer a wider range of products at a price point,” it said in a statement.
“In doing so, this platform has the potential to help the region better manage and mitigate the challenges of climate change, which are disproportionately impacting the region, while accelerating emissions reductions across the region.” It’s hidden.”
James Csokas, a former managing director at Blackstone who joined Investcorp as managing director earlier this year, will lead the business as head of climate solutions.
“Climate change is the biggest challenge and therefore one of the most important themes for long-term investing today.
Successfully addressing climate change and the energy transition will require private sector capital, innovation and commitment,” he said.
Investcorp said decarbonizing all sectors of the global economy will require an estimated $9.2 trillion in annual investment by 2050.
