Former Eagles first-round pick Derek Barnett will be a healthy addition to Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Barnett is currently inactive.
That could mean more snaps for rookie first-round pick Nolan Smith. Barnett was the Eagles’ fourth edge rusher all season, but it appears Smith has overtaken him. Outside linebacker Patrick Johnson also played well.
Here is the complete list of Eagles inactive players:
CB Bradley Roby (shoulder)
TE Grant Calcaterra (concussion)
RB Boston Scott (private)
QB Tanner McKee
DE Derek Barnett
DT Moro Ojomo
Calcaterra and Scott were absent for this game, with Rashard Penny and Albert Okwuegbunam both active for this game.
Penny has spent this season buried behind D’Andre Swift, Kenny Gainwell and Scott. Penny has appeared just twice all season, playing just nine snaps in Week 2 against the Vikings. Without Gainwell, the kick returner will likely be either Penny or Britten Covey.
The Eagles traded for Okwuegbunam before the season, but he appeared in just one game this season and did not show much impact offensively.
I’m a little surprised that Ojomo isn’t active. The Eagles traded Kentavious Street at the deadline, but will shorten their rotation at defensive tackle.
Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith will be officially activated Sunday against the Eagles.
Smith (neck) sat out last week’s game with a needle and entered the weekend as questionable. Reserve player Chuma Edoga (ankle/knee) was also listed as questionable for the weekend, but has been active.
The Eagles will be without four players who were ruled out Friday for this game. That includes right guard Cam Jurgens, who had 21 days of practice that week. Jurgens will miss his fifth straight game on Sunday.
Rookie Tyler Steen is expected to start at right guard instead of veteran Sua Opeta, who is starting in the top four.
