Breath of Air won yesterday’s feature race and headlined an exciting nine-race card at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The seven-year-old gelding, ridden by jockey Lee Newman, finished strongly in the seven-furlong BD5,000 race to give owner Al Adiyat Racing and trainer AM Smith victory.
The Breath of Air connection led to the Late Abdullah Ahmed Nass Cup, sponsored by AA Nass and Sons Co WLL and Sarens Nass Middle East.
Second place went to Al Mohamediyah Racing’s Ghumays and Fawzi Nas, ridden by Anas Al Siyabi. Third place went to Al Ahhoo Racing’s Mehmento, Mohamed Hasan and Nathan Cross.
The third race yesterday saw another Late Abdullah Ahmed Nath Cup (organized by AA Nath & Sons Company WLL) run over a 6 furlong straight with a total purse of BD3,000.
Mayas gave the win to Al Hasanain Racing, Ali Jan and Ebrahim Nader. Meanwhile, in Talha, Al Mohammediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Anas Al Siyabi took second place. Rosa Mystica was third with Al Ahhoo Racing, Jaber Ramadan and Nathan Cross.
Three other trophies were won during the day’s activities.
Race 8, held over nine furlongs for BD4,000 in prize money, saw Al Mohamediyah Racing, Fawzi Nas and Anas Al Siyabi win the Nas Corporation BSC Cup with Arctic Emperor winning .
West Suffolk was followed by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa, Abdullah Kuwait and Abdulrahim Jassim. Malachie took third place behind Al Jasmi Stable, Bader Al Abed and Ebrahim Nader.
Race 7 of the Gulf City Cleaning Company Cup was won by The Parent, ridden by Al Adiyat Racing and AM Smith, and ridden by Gerald Mosse.
The three-year-old colt won the BD3,000 prize money in the eight-furlong race, ahead of Al Mukhtar Star, who ran Al Ahhoo Racing, Jaber Ramadan and Nathan Cross.
For the Kinks, Isa Mahmoud Al Seddiqi, Osama Hashim and Anas Al Shiyabi took third place. Karina won the Applied Sciences University (ASU) Cup in race 6.
The 4-year-old filly won an eight-horse furling race for Fateel Brothers Syndicate, Bassem Mahdi and Carlos Enrique, earning a total prize money of BD2,000.
Sharid came in second after His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Abdullah Faisal. Meanwhile, Rider on the Storm was ridden by Andrew Elliott, with M&E Racing and AM Smith in third place.
Elsewhere yesterday, Sahara Spear won the fifth race for owner Al Rema Stables and trainer Abdullah Kuwait, ridden by Abdulrazim Jassim. Jibara won Race 4 with Al Ahhoo Racing, Mohamed Hasan and Nathan Cross. Gala won the second race for Al Bastaki Racing, Salahuddin Al Bastaki and Carlos Enrique. Al Hamdani 1810 was ridden by Adam Al Balshi, with Victorious and Yousif Taher winning race one.
