Brock Purdy is the heavy favorite to win NFL MVP heading into a showdown with the Ravens on Monday Night Football on Christmas night.
He is on track to set an NFL record for yards per attempt in a season (9.9), a feat that will face a major challenge against the Ravens’ No. 1 defense.
But his MVP credentials go beyond one statistic. Entering Week 16, he was at the top of the NFL passing leaderboard with completion percentage, passing yards, touchdown passes, yards per attempt, TD-INT rate, passer rating, passing touchdown rate, and yards per completion. ranked in the top 2.

A strong performance against the Ravens could put him in position to lead the league in most, if not all, of these categories.
He is within striking distance of some unusual clubs, including the one of which he will be a member for the first time. One out of one.
triple crown
Leads the NFL in passing yards, passing TDs, and completion percentage
member: 1934 Ernie Haber, 1940 Sammy Baugh, 1947 Sammy Baugh, 1965 John Brody, 2001 Kurt Warner, 2007 Tom Brady, 2011 Drew Brees
The Triple Crown is rarely in the NFL lexicon as it is in baseball. It became mainstream in 2021 when Cooper Kupp won the receiving triple crown, but it’s rarely talked about among QBs.
Only six QBs have won the passing triple crown, leading the NFL in passing yards, touchdown passes and season passing percentage. This feat alone would be incredible for Purdy, as it combines advantages in both quantity and efficiency.
Four crowns
Leads the NFL in passing yards, passing TDs, completion percentage, and yards per attempt.
member: 1940 Sammy Baugh, 2001 Kurt Warner, 2007 Tom Brady
Let me introduce you to the Four Crowns. A feat accomplished only by Sammy Baugh, Kurt Warner, and Tom Brady deserves that name. They are the only QBs in NFL history to lead the league in four categories in the same season: passing yards, passing TDs, completion percentage, and yards per attempt.
quintuple crown
Leads the NFL in passing yards, passing TDs, completion percentage, yards per attempt, and TD-INT ratio.
member: 2007 Tom Brady
Purdy also leads the NFL in TD-INT ratio, so let’s jump from four to five. Above he led the NFL in five categories he was a QB but only one. That was his one of the best QB seasons of all time he was Tom Brady in 2007.
six pull crown
Leads the NFL in passing yards, passing TDs, completion percentage, yards per attempt, TD-INT ratio, and passer rating.
member: 2007 Tom Brady
Purdy is on pace to achieve one of the highest passer rating (119.0) marks in NFL history. Now let’s move on to his six wins. We still can’t get rid of this guy Tom Brady. Because he was also an NFL coach in 2007.
septuple crown
Leads the NFL in passing yards, passing TDs, completion percentage, yards per attempt, TD-INT ratio, passer rating, and passing TD rate.
member: 2007 Tom Brady
One of the surprising aspects of Purdy’s season is that he entered Week 16 ranked 21st in pass attempts, but second in the league in touchdown passes. He leads the NFL in passing TD percentage by a mile, the seventh category of seven titles. Tom Brady is still the only QB on this list. You can accomplish that by throwing 50 touchdown passes in a season.
octuple crown
Leads the NFL in passing yards, passing TDs, completion percentage, yards per attempt, TD-INT ratio, passer rating, passing TD rate, and yards per completion.
member: no one
Finally, we have reached the eight crowns. Purdy could become the first player in NFL history to lead the NFL in each of the eight categories listed above, including yards per completion. Derek Anderson led his NFL in this category in 2007. Goodbye, Tom Brady. Purdy could be in a league of its own as he hits the same amount of deep balls and YAC to outscore the rest of the league.
What is the reason for becoming the first eight-time champion in history? If he has a strong performance against the Ravens, the managers will be on deck and their pass defense is the worst in the NFL. In Week 18, he gets the Rams, who have allowed a number of long touchdown passes to the Ravens and Saints in recent weeks.
Why doesn’t he do it? It’s an uphill climb in a fierce competition for completion percentage, passing yards and touchdown passes with Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa and Patrick Mahomes. If San Francisco receives a bye, it could rest its starting pitcher in the final week. If Christian McCaffrey scores as many touchdowns as he has this year, Purdy’s numbers could also take a hit.
I can’t believe I’m writing about Purdy, the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, leading the NFL in not one, but eight divisions.
If he does that, you’ll have to add eight titles to your NFL vocabulary.
