Members of the Block community are invited to a lunchtime event to discuss recent Nobel Prizes in chemistry, physics, and medicine.
Sponsored by the School of Mathematics, “Learn the Nobel Prize at Lunch” features four 15-minute lectures by Brock researchers that elucidate the complex scientific concepts behind groundbreaking research and revolutionize the future. We will focus on potential applications that could cause
- Chemistry Professor Georgi Nikonov talks about the history and significance of the Nobel Prize.
- Assistant Professor of Chemistry Jumbo Gao will speak about the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, which was awarded to Mungi G. Bawendi, Lewis E. Bruce, and Alexei I. Ekimov for the discovery and development of quantum dots.
- Professor of Physics Thad Haroun received the 2023 award awarded to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Kraus, and Anne Lhuillier for their experimental method of generating attosecond light pulses for the study of electron dynamics in matter. Discuss the Nobel Prize in Physics.
- Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Ian Patterson will receive the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology, awarded to Katalin Carrico and Drew Wiseman, for their discoveries in base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.・Let’s talk about medical awards.
The Nobel Prize for Lunch event will be held at Pond Inlet on Tuesday, October 17th from noon to 1pm. We welcome all Brock faculty, students, and staff to join us. No science background required.
