Building permits for investment, residential, industrial and commercial purposes are now being issued online within two days on average, as Bahrain continues to speed up administrative procedures.
Najma Hassan, head of the city’s one-stop shop, revealed this at the weekly northern city council meeting at the city council headquarters in Budaiya, which will be shortened from 2.2 days in May.
She added that for the most complex cases, the maximum period for issuing a permit is still five days.
The Benayat Building Permit Portal provides applicants with all the information they need to prepare the drawings and documents needed to apply for a building permit.
The system allows technical firms licensed in Bahrain to apply, check the status of their applications, seek consultation from relevant government agencies, pay fees, and apply for other related services.
This is achieved by centralizing all relevant regulations and requirements through an interactive map that provides important information about land parcels.
“We are already keen to issue permits in record time and are currently completing all assessments and reviews within an average of two days, which is further progress than in May this year. ” Hassan said.
“Investors, businessmen and the public seem to be satisfied with the efforts we have made.”
Discussions are currently underway to enable the issuing of permits for alterations, renovations and repairs through Benayat by the end of 2024, allowing all municipal services to be easily accessed online through one system. , he added.
Mr. Hassan said these initiatives and system upgrades have helped the country become more investor-friendly by providing user-friendly and more simplified processes.
“We have automated, instant, direct contact response, and any issues, issues or failures can be addressed immediately by a qualified team.”
Dr Saeed Shubar Al Wedayeh, Chairman of the City Council, led the discussion at the assembly, which was attended by numerous community representatives.
Minister of Local Government and Agriculture Wael Al Mubarak said that from January to May 7, 504 building permits were issued through the Benayat system.
The minister revealed that of the permits processed, urban housing applications accounted for 75%, or a total of 380 permits, while special project applications increased by 18%, or 94 permits. The number of permits for investment buildings accounted for 4%.
He added that Benayat issued 1,565 permits in 2022.
