However, recent policy amendments have imposed caps on the registration of non-electric vehicles, impacting the fundamental rights of car dealers in the region.
The petitioners, through senior advocate Chetan Mittal, have argued that over 50% of the vehicles entering Chandigarh come from neighboring states such as Mohali and Panchkula, where there are no such restrictions or bans on non-electric vehicles. did. They argued that the policy was not consistent with the intended goal of promoting electric vehicles.
Additionally, the petitioners argue that the policy and its implementation are arbitrary, lack proper legitimacy, and have potential because regulations on non-electric vehicles could lead consumers to seek registration in neighboring states. He argued that this could lead to a loss of tax revenue.
The petitioners argued that unless the Motor Vehicles Act and Regulations are amended, the executive order should not restrict the sale and registration of vehicles.
They also mentioned expressing their concerns to administrators and other authorities.
The case was heard by the Bench of Justice GS Sandhwaria and Justice Harpreet Kaur Jeewan and was adjourned to November 9 for further arguments.
