Optimistic about Thailand’s electric vehicle (EV) market, Changan Automobile, a well-known manufacturer based in Chongqing, China, has made ambitious plans. The company aims to Sell 20,000 EVs in Thailand It designated the country as a strategic export hub later this year.
Changan Automobile Sales (Thailand) Chairman Shen Xinghua revealed that the Thai government’s national development plan has a goal of making 30% of all vehicles manufactured in Thailand electric vehicles by 2030. However, Changan expects this goal could be achieved. Given the rapid progress in EV development and growing driver awareness, this is expected to be achieved in 2027, three years earlier than the government’s schedule.
According to Shen, the launch of Changan electric vehicles in the Thai market received enthusiastic response from consumers within just four months. The company’s unique design and advanced technology is expected to drive sales of at least 20,000 EVs in the country this year.
Mr. Shen mentioned that the company is considering introducing long-range electric vehicles to the Thai market. He said the technology could extend the range of EVs and alleviate drivers’ concerns about the limits of charging stations.
Changan Automobile has received approval from the Board of Investment for an EV project worth 8.86 billion baht. The company will start selling EVs from its Rayong factory this year, with ambitious plans to export 200,000 vehicles from its production facility. The groundbreaking ceremony for construction was held on November 8 of the previous year.
Mr. Shen emphasized that Changan Automobile announced a “vast ocean plan” at the Shanghai Motor Exhibition in April last year. Under this strategy, Thailand is envisioned to act as an important bridge. The company plans to utilize Thailand as a comprehensive base for production, research and development, parts procurement, sales, and logistics.
At the Motor Expo held in Thailand last November, Changan Automobile exhibited its main EV SUV and sedan, the Deepal S07 and Deepal L07. The response was overwhelming, with more than 3,000 orders received, the Bangkok Post reported.
Mr. Shen recently presided over the opening of the newest Changan showroom operated by Galax Automotive. The Deepal Galax Rama 2 showroom in Changan, dedicated to displaying Deepal EV vehicles, marks the strategic collaboration between Galax and Infinite His Automobile, a subsidiary of his AAS Group.
Infinite Automobile, an authorized Changan Automobile dealer, played a key role in introducing these innovative electric vehicles to the Thai market. The company is a state-owned company headquartered in Chongqing, China, and has a strong foothold in the region.
