Prohibits Biden administration from implementing aggressive emissions standards
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Sponsored by Representative Bill Posey (R-Rockledge), the House of Representatives has passed legislation that would protect consumer choice in future gas-powered vehicle purchases.
The Automobile Retail Sales Choice Act (CARS Act) is the Biden administration’s aggressive approach to light and medium-duty vehicles that limits consumer choice, including requiring that at least two-thirds of all new vehicles be electric vehicles by 2032. It prohibits the implementation of strict emission standards.
“Purchasing an electric vehicle remains out of reach for many Americans who rely on cars and trucks for family life, work, and recreation. “It preserves the freedom to purchase a car, and I’m glad it passed with bipartisan support,” said Congressman Posey.
In April 2023, the EPA announced proposed rules that would set new, stricter vehicle emissions standards. Last week, around 4,000 car dealers wrote to the government asking it to reconsider the rules, citing a lack of demand from consumers.
Mr. Posey also expressed serious concerns that the rule, if left in place, would make the United States dependent on China for its energy and transportation needs.
“The U.S. has plenty of fossil fuels, but China has cornered the market in producing EV batteries. EPA rules require the U.S. to sequester our energy storage and rely on Communist China. Therefore, leaving our country would be a very dangerous position.”
