The UF Athletic Hall of Famer was officially inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame during a ceremony in New York on Tuesday night.
NEW YORK – Gators legend Cris Collinsworth was officially inducted into the 2023 Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame class during a ceremony Tuesday night in New York City.
Collinsworth is the only NFL analyst other than John Madden to win the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Event Analyst, having won the award nine times. He currently sits alongside Mike Tirico in the announce booth for NBC Sunday Night Football. His career began in 1990 when he joined NBC Sports as an analyst for NFL broadcasts and some college football broadcasts. In 2005, Collinsworth joined the NFL on Fox broadcast booth along with play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and former quarterback Troy Aikman to form the station’s lead broadcast team.
Collinsworth, who played at UF from 1977 to 1980, was a three-time All-SEC and two-time All-American as a wide receiver. As a Gator, he caught 120 passes for 1,937 yards, 14 touchdowns, ran for two touchdowns and returned a kickoff for an extra score. He was inducted into the UF Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.
Collinsworth played eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, recording 417 receptions for 6,698 yards and 36 touchdowns. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1981 and was named to the Pro Bowl three times.
