Courtney Robinson’s passion for sports began as a child growing up in a household where track and field was the center of conversation. Her father and her older brother were high school athletes, and her mother played as a basketball player and later coached at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Robinson continued her love of sports during her undergraduate years at San Diego State University, where she played lacrosse for four years. And she’s backed into attending Arizona State University, earning a master’s degree in sports at the Cronkite Graduate School of Journalism and Mass Communication while serving as an in-game emcee for ASU’s athletic events. I’m trying to. Robinson served as an in-game host and hosted her segments and announcements live inside her stadium during the game.
“I grew up in a family that revolved around sports. Whether it’s watching a game, watching a game on TV, or talking about sports, it’s always at the forefront of my mind. It was on the front lines,” Robinson said. “Having been involved in sports all my life, I was inspired to bring that passion into the professional field. It shaped my work ethic and approach to everything I do. ”
Robinson originally wanted to be a sports reporter, but eventually switched her focus to digital marketing with the goal of taking a leadership position in a sports organization. She currently works as a digital marketing specialist at Cronkite Her Agency, one of the school’s signature immersive premier experiences.
“My journey at Cronkite started in sports journalism, but I moved to digital marketing. This experience was very helpful for my master’s degree and helped me realize my dream of working with sports-related companies in digital marketing. I did it,” she said. “Cronkite stood out to me because of the hands-on experience I gained here. I wanted to add valuable experience to my resume that would impress future employers. ”
This semester also saw Robinson make her debut as an in-game host at an ASU athletic event, which she said allowed her to step out of her comfort zone.
Robinson appeared in four football games, including the Nov. 18 tilt against Oregon State, as well as three baseball games and the ASU basketball game against Massachusetts Lowell on Nov. 16.
She feels great excitement and adrenaline on match days, enjoys the challenge of memorizing the script, and says her role as an in-game host is the perfect blend of on-field experience and broadcasting. thinking about.
“My experience as a former athlete has given me a different level of respect and recognition. [athletes] It’s passing. “She appreciates how valuable their time is and that it can sometimes be difficult to fit interviews into their schedules,” she said.
Robinson, who is currently in her final semester at ASU, believes every experience will be valuable to others who want to work in sports media.
“Saying yes to opportunities, especially ones that are outside of your comfort zone, can lead to personal and professional growth. Exploring different avenues can help you learn what you enjoy doing.” “It’s really important to understand where your strengths lie,” she said. “Looking back, I wouldn’t change anything. Each step contributed to my journey and ultimately led me to a fulfilling career in digital marketing.”
