While responding to a large fire on Christmas Eve, multiple agencies spotted a large plume of smoke and flames visible from Interstate 35, officials said.
DENTON COUNTY, Texas — A total of 58 vehicles were destroyed in a fire at an auto auction facility in Denton County early Sunday morning, authorities said.
At 1:32 a.m., Denton County Emergency Services District 1 said its crews were dispatched to a report of a suspected grass fire along the 3700 block of McPherson Drive in Northlake.
While traveling along Interstate 35 on their way to the scene, responders spotted a large column of smoke and flames visible from the highway, officials said. Officials said crews arrived on scene to find multiple vehicles engulfed in flames at a large automotive complex.
A total of 58 vehicles were affected by the fire, which took nearly 90 minutes to extinguish, authorities said.
Members of the Flower Mound Fire Department, Justin Volunteer Fire Department, Roanoke Fire Department, Tarrant County Emergency Services District, and Denton Fire Department were also on the scene, covering aspects of the fire and the Denton County Emergency Services District. 1 said.
Denton County Emergency Services District 1 added that an All American Towing front loader was also used at the scene to move vehicles and create a firebreak along a line of vehicles stored on the property.
The fire was officially declared under control at 3:09 a.m., authorities said.
Denton County Emergency Services District 1 said the Denton County Fire Marshal’s Office will be assigned to investigate the incident.
