The Dolphins defeated consecutive winning teams. finally.
Kicker Jason Sanders was the star of the game, kicking his fifth field goal of the day, a 29-yarder on the final play, giving the Dolphins a 22-20 victory over the Cowboys. The Dolphins finished with an 11-4 record and qualified for the playoffs.
The loss did nothing for the Cowboys’ divisional hopes, dropping them to 10-5. If the Eagles win their last two games and lose one, they will clinch the NFC East championship.
The Cowboys took the lead on a 17-play, 69-yard drive when Brandin Cooks scored on Dak Prescott’s 8-yard throw. But with 3 minutes, 27 seconds left, it was too much time for the Dolphins.
They gained 84 yards in 12 plays and ran out the clock.
Sanders also had field goals of 57, 52, 54 and 35, with the Dolphins’ only touchdown coming on a 4-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Raheem Mostert with 17 seconds left in the first half.
The Dolphins defeated the Cowboys 375-339.
Tagovailoa completed 24 of 37 for 293 yards and one touchdown. Tyreek Hill had nine receptions for 99 yards.
Dak Prescott completed 20 of 32 for 253 yards and two touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb caught six passes for 118 yards and one touchdown.
The Cowboys will regret their first drive, which ended with fullback Hunter Luepke failing to secure a handoff from Prescott and a first-and-goal from the Miami 1. That was the only turnover of the game.
The Cowboys are 7-0 at home and 3-5 on the road this season.
