STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A horrific car crash at a New Springville intersection Tuesday night left two vehicles in ruins and witnesses wondering if anyone would have survived.
At approximately 9:25 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle crash involving a Mitsubishi SUV and a Nissan SUV at the intersection of Richmond Street and Yukon Street, according to an NYPD spokesperson. .
Police said an 18-year-old woman driving a silver Mitsubishi was attempting to turn left onto Yukon Avenue with a green arrow when she was struck by a maroon Nissan SUV driven by a 27-year-old man. He claimed that.
Police said the driver of the Nissan SUV was traveling northbound on Richmond Street when the Mitsubishi crashed.
The female driver and two passengers were taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze in stable condition, and the male driver was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton in stable condition, police said.
Several people were seen stopping and standing in an adjacent parking lot to watch as FDNY members investigated the two crumpled cars.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever seen an accident like that,” a witness at the scene told the Advance/SILive.com. “I definitely thought someone had died.”
An NYPD spokesperson said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
