The Edo State Government has announced that it is collaborating with an international automobile manufacturing company, Foton Motor Group, to establish a world-class automobile assembly and manufacturing plant in the state.
Managing Director of Edo State Investment Promotion Authority, Kelvin Uwaibi, said the partnership will create training and employment opportunities and will also help reduce vehicle costs in Nigeria and Africa.
He said, “Fukuda Motor Group has traded with Nigeria in the past. However, we plan to establish an automobile assembly plant in Edo State and start manufacturing products in Nigeria. “We will provide the necessary support to achieve this goal through strategies and investments that will, in turn, alleviate automobile-related challenges in Nigeria and Africa.”
Jimmy Liuo, Project Manager of Foton Motors Group, said, “Edo’s vehicle assembly company will be a long-term investment and will contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.” We are in Edo state because it is a business-friendly environment. We will introduce top Chinese brands such as ultra-light trucks, light trucks, heavy trucks and CNG into Nigeria to reduce vehicle costs in Nigeria. ”
