Giants right tackle Evan Neal apologized to fans. social media posts Wednesday night. He did something similar at Thursday’s team meeting and told the media afterwards that he wants to rebuild trust with his fan base.
“I regret” Neal said in the locker room, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “I definitely could have chosen better words. I myself come from a poor family and I never wanted to disrespect anyone, regardless of their financial status or profession. So I would like to sincerely apologize for my words. I wanted to.”
Giants coach Brian Daboll had the following conversation with Neal:bad comment”
In an interview with New Jersey Advance Media’s Darryl Slater, Neal encouraged fans to “boo louder” and questioned why he should listen to “fair-weather” fans.
“People commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere? “Neil told Slater: “Most critics don’t really understand the game of football to the level that we understand it in this building. So why would a lion care about the opinion of a sheep?” Will you?”
Neal said Thursday that his words were a loud expression of his frustration. The Giants have 1 win and 3 losses. They have lost their two home games 64-3. They rank 31st in total offensive power. And he allowed 11 sacks against the Seahawks on Monday night, giving him 23 sacks on the season.
“Honestly, I wasn’t trying to pick a fight with anyone,” Neal said. “It was just a moment of frustration. I didn’t mean to attack anyone or anyone’s profession, but it came across that way, but I said something. And I acknowledged it. I certainly could have chosen better words. Hey, I love the fans who support us and are behind us and want to fight and cheer for us, so I just apologize to the fans I offended.”
