The Federal Government has revealed plans to introduce new policies in the transport sector to ensure full compliance with the use of vehicle safety kits by motorists.
The Minister of Transport, Saidu Alkali, made this known on Thursday in Abuja during an awareness program on road safety and use of motor vehicle safety kits organized by the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria.
The program was designed in collaboration with West Africa Automobile Services Limited, a company registered in Egypt to manufacture safety kits. The Minister revealed that countless lives could be saved if drivers followed simple road etiquette.
The Minister, who was represented by Moussa Ibrahim, Director General of the Ministry’s Road Transport and Mass Transport Department, said: We would like to thank President Bola Tinubu for creating an investment environment that has enabled the brothers of West Africa Automobile Services Limited to come to this country for investment.
“We will immediately develop policies that support the use of safety kits to make this plan a success. We know how many lives could have been saved with safety kits.”
RTEAN Chairman Musa Maitakobi said the purpose of the collaboration and launch of the kit was to move investment into the Nigerian economy.
Maitakobi, who was represented by RTEAN Vice-President Muhammad Bushara, said the association is working in strategic partnership with businesses, individuals and community organizations to raise awareness of the importance of equipping all vehicles with vehicle safety kits. He said he aims to raise awareness.
He said: “We encourage car owners and drivers to equip their vehicles with a comprehensive safety kit, educate individuals on the key components that contribute to a well-equipped safety kit, and encourage preventive “We encourage the promotion of safe driving habits and responsible ownership by highlighting the importance of this.” countermeasure.
“The launch of this initiative is an important milestone for us. It demonstrates our unwavering dedication to promoting road safety and reducing the occurrence of preventable accidents. By making it easily available to all vehicle owners, both civilian, state, and federal, it can have a significant impact on saving lives and improving the overall safety culture in the country. I’m confident.”
He further said that the car’s safety kit consists of reflective vests, traffic cones, safety helmets and warning triangles to increase visibility and alert other drivers in case of a breakdown or accident.
Other components are first aid supplies such as bandages, disinfectants and wound dressings to provide immediate treatment in case of injury.
