Gabe Vincent was one of the Los Angeles Lakers’ biggest offseason additions, and he showed why in the team’s third preseason game against the Sacramento Kings. Vincent sank four 3-pointers and scored 18 points in an eight-point win at Honda Center in Anaheim.
With LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reeves all sidelined, the rest of the team had more opportunities to shine, and Vincent, like many others, did just that. And with another strong win, Vincent believes the Lakers are on a positive trend this preseason.
“It was fun. Everything is heading in the right direction,” Vincent said after the win. “That’s what preseason is for, to get ready. We’re getting closer as a team and things are starting to mesh more with each game. Although there’s obviously a lot of room for improvement. , we are heading in the right direction.”
As Vincent said, the Lakers still have room to grow, especially in terms of the chemistry between the new and returning players. However, the Lakers have six preseason games, so the preseason schedule could be a plus in this regard, and Vincent believes it will give them more time to get to know each other.
“It’s stiff. I think some guys want to play two or three preseason games,” Vincent added. “But there are advantages to playing six people. Like I said before, we continue to get closer to each other, so I try to look on the bright side of things. So I hope it works out. Well, we continue to grow and feel pretty good by the time we get to tipoff.”
With such a deep roster, it will be difficult for head coach Darvin Ham to figure out the right rotations and lineup combinations, but these extra games will give his staff extra time to figure it out. will be possible. The great thing about the Lakers is that their roster is very diverse.
A player like Vincent can operate as the primary ball handler, but he spends a lot of time on the court with D’Angelo Russell and Reaves, so he’s used to this and has done so throughout his career.
“I love it,” the Lakers guard said. “My time in the league was mixed, whether it was Goran or not.” [Dragic] or kyle [Lowry] In recent years, or Tyler [Herro]. So, I’m used to this and I think it’s going to be a lot easier when you have two guys that can handle the ball and create offense and be playmakers and play off the ball. So I think me and DLo did a little bit of that today. ”
The depth and versatility of the Lakers as a whole, not just the guards, gives the coaching staff so many options, and Vincent showed what he brings to the table in a big way.
Gabe Vincent loves the energy of Lakers’ training camp so far
The additions of Vincent and others this offseason have led many to view the Lakers as title contenders, and the team believes they are as well. So far in training camp and preseason, there’s been a lot of energy around the Lakers, which Vincent loves.
“The biggest takeaway is that I love the energy it brings us every day,” Vincent said. “Everybody’s excited to be here, but it’s not a weirdly overly excited atmosphere. It’s more of an excitement, an eagerness to go out and compete and play and get to know each other.”
