Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a $5 trillion economy and self-reliant India, Gadkari said, “We aim to make the auto sector a Rs 25,000-crore industry.”
He further said, “We have to be number one. Our mission, our goal is to make the Indian automobile industry the number one manufacturing hub in the world.”
Gadkari reminded the audience that when he became minister, India’s automobile sector was the seventh largest in the world.
“It is a matter of great pride and joy to me that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, we have achieved such a remarkable feat. We have now surpassed Japan and become the third largest country in the world. ” The minister said there is great potential in the automotive sector as the demand is not only in the domestic market but also in the international market.
The size of the industry is currently Rs 1,250 crore.
“This is an industry that generates Rs 4,000 crore through exports and has already created Rs 4,000 crore jobs. It also gives maximum revenue to state and central governments as part of GST. It’s an industry,” he said. He said.
On electrification, he said sales of electric vehicles (EVs) have increased severalfold in India over the past few years, and companies that have invested in this technology are reaping the rewards, while those that lag behind are struggling. He said there was.
“If we don’t invest (in EVs), we will miss the bus,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said the government has introduced several initiatives such as FAME scheme, Automotive PLI, Advanced Chemical Cell (ACC) batteries etc. to promote electric vehicles and their manufacturing in India. He stated that he is taking measures.
He said production of ACC batteries in India under the PLI scheme is expected to start by around February.
When asked on the sidelines of the event about extending the FAME scheme, Pandey did not comment specifically, but such proposals are under the government’s consideration.
