Harry Kane says he wants to be at his best for eight or nine more years and wants to help England win the European Championship on home soil in 2028.
England’s top scorer, who will reach 35 points with just a month left until the start of Euro 2028, said it would be a “dream come true” to win the tournament after losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
“The perception in the world of sport and football is that once you turn 30, people start to think it’s over,” the Bayern Munich striker said after Britain and Ireland were chosen to host the Euros.
“But the way I see it, I’m nearing the end of the second half of my career.
“I’ve had nine or 10 years at the highest level and I’m looking forward to another eight or nine years.
Kane, who turned 30 in July, added: “Recovery, sports science and the way the game adapts has allowed players to play longer.”
Kane cited Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as examples of players who were still performing at the highest level well into their 30s.
“If you look at a lot of the players at the top level, like Ronaldo, Messi,[Roberto]Lewandowski,[Zlatan]Ibrahimovic, they’ve almost grown up as they hit 30,” he added.
“My personal life, my family, my kids may all be taken care of. I’m physically and mentally comfortable where I am. It just allows me to focus on football.”
“that [the Euro 2020 final at Wembley] It didn’t end the way we had hoped, but it will certainly leave a little bit between our teeth.
“Next summer I won’t just be in Germany, I’ll be at home.” [in 2028] And playing at Wembley will bring back memories of the last Euro. Winning a tournament is special, but winning in your home country is a dream come true. ”
