Noor Al Hurayf, Minister of Sustainable Development, confirmed Bahrain’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on climate and ecosystems.
The Minister was speaking at the Ministerial Meeting of the Union of Finance Ministers on Climate Change, held as part of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The meeting discussed mobilizing public and private climate finance and exchanged views on mutual challenges.
Ms. Al Hurayf highlighted Saudi Arabia’s national action plan “Blueprint for Bahrain” announced by His Majesty King Hamad. The plan confirmed Bahrain’s continued interest and support in implementing efforts and commitments to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
Mumtalakat recently announced two initiatives. Safaa is a voluntary platform that aims to offset carbon emissions by helping individuals and businesses better understand and manage their carbon footprint. and Climate Solutions Partners, a $750 million climate fund focused on climate solutions and aimed at accelerating the transition to a zero-carbon economy.
He stressed the importance of strengthening international efforts to overcome and address the effects of climate change and affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to the Helsinki Principles.
