England will face Bangladesh on Tuesday in the seventh match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Defending champions England will be aiming for a strong comeback against Bangladesh after losing their opening match of the tournament against New Zealand by nine wickets.
England captain Jos Buttler has said that Ben Stokes, who is recovering from a lower back injury, may not start against Bangladesh. “Well, it’s probably not likely. It’s good to see him back in net and recovering towards full fitness, but probably not tomorrow,” Butler said.
Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in the first match of ODI World Cup 2023. 36-year-old all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will always be a threat for any team, while top batsmen Litton Das, Mehdi Hasan Miraz and Najmul will always be a threat. Notably, Hossain Shant has also given some great performances over the years.
In a low-scoring match against Afghanistan, both Miraz and Najmul produced impressive half-centuries, posting a huge total of 156 runs with over 15 overs to spare.
Meanwhile, the outfield at Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium is currently drawing criticism from England captain Buttler.
Butler’s comments came after Jonathan Trott, the Afghanistan national team coach, expressed displeasure with the outfield at the venue after the match against Bangladesh.
“Well, I think there are a few (concerns),” Butter said before discussing the on-field situation at a pre-match press conference in Dharamshala on Monday.
“In my own opinion, that’s bad. Any time you say let’s be careful about diving or be careful about defense, I think it goes against everything we want as a team.” I understand that you want to. I mean, obviously the surface and the outfield situation is not ideal. The outfield is different than when I was playing here in the IPL,” Buttler said.
The question was posed to the Somerset man after several players slipped while chasing the ball in the outfield at the HPCA Stadium during the Afghanistan-Bangladesh match.
