Jim Irsay is a danger to himself.
The Colts’ owner’s current self-sabotage began with this assertion in an interview with HBO. Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel What led to his 2014 arrest Prejudice against wealthy white billionaires. Then, Irsei threatened with lawsuit ESPN first take Based on what was said about him during Wednesday’s show.
Irsei continued. He posted this on X, formerly known as Twitter. I don’t know your name, and I don’t care to know it. If my black mother Dorsey were still alive…you would be in big hot water! You’re mean and ugly, your nothing burger”
It is unclear whether Mr. Irsai was referring to Molly Kerim or Kimberly A. Martin, who appeared in the segment that featured Mr. Irsay’s comments about prejudice against billionaires.
No matter how you look at it, it’s inappropriate. It’s a terrible move for Irsay, for the Colts, and for the NFL. As I opined during training camp, when he popped out about running backs in general and Jonathan Taylor in particular, Irsay is not fit to own an NFL team.
Fitness doesn’t matter. He is the owner of the team. Unless he crosses a Snyder-esque line, there is no effective mechanism to force him to sell.
Still, his comments on HBO and Wednesday’s post on X leave a bad impression on everyone. After all, he needs someone to protect him.
He shouldn’t have been interviewed on HBO. Someone should have intervened to stop it. He shouldn’t have posted what he posted on X today. Someone should have intervened to stop it.
The NFL has been contacted for comment. The league cannot be complacent with this situation. The Colts cannot be complacent with this situation.
Mr. Irsay should not have said what he said to HBO.He shouldn’t have posted the threat to sue ESPN first take. He shouldn’t have attacked one of the female posters on the show.
After all, he shouldn’t own the Colts. But as 49ers CEO Jed York said a few years ago, Owner cannot be fired.
Hopefully, not only the NFL, but a lot of its fan base, would be much better off that way.
