The Steelers allowed the most yards in last Sunday’s win over the Bengals since late in the 2018 season, but their offensive effort received uniformly positive reviews after their first game since firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada. I couldn’t get it.
The 16 points were the result of all the action on the field, and while they may have been enough to beat Jake Browning’s Bengals, they weren’t enough to guarantee a win week after week. That’s why quarterback Kenny Pickett said Wednesday that after saying he “definitely liked our performance” against Cincinnati, “yards are great, but it takes points to win games.”
‘The chunk will be played was there” Pickett said via Joe Rutter. Pittsburgh Tribune – Review. “We had some really good drives with some long fields. We had some penalties and some bad plays that kind of threw us off our rhythm. If we can get that out of the way, we should get points. . . . It’s the game. It’s planning, it’s coverage, it’s making the right calls at the right time and getting them into those coverages, and comparing the shots we want to take to the looks we’re seeing. We had those, which is great. Everything works together. The protection was great, the guys were getting open, I was making throws. We’re going to continue this great preparation. I think everything will happen within the week.”
The Cardinals come to Pittsburgh this Sunday, and the 31st-ranked defense should give the Steelers more chances on offense.
