Kids Inc. is seeking a final $5.5 million to break ground on the Rockrose Sports Complex.
Kids, as Globe News previously reported. Inc. has launched a $30 million Home Field Advantage campaign to fund the construction of Rockrose Sports Park, which includes two phases divided into outdoor and indoor facilities. Since August 2022, this campaign has been dedicated solely to raising funds for an outdoor complex that includes space for numerous sports competitions and training in Amarillo, including soccer, track, baseball, softball, volleyball, and soccer. I’ve been focusing on it.
The campaign has raised $18.5 million so far and hopes to raise an additional $5.5 million for a $1.5 million grant, according to Kids Inc. President and CEO Jimmy Lackey. The funding now amounts to $25.5 million and will allow the organization to begin work on the project. .
“We want to start with this. We want people to understand that this is real, that it has legs, that it’s coming. Then we can complete it as we grow the rest. “We believe we can do that. Our goal right now is to get to $24 million, and then we’ll break ground,” Lackey said.
The company’s president and CEO said no timetable has been set for the final $5.5 million it hopes to raise, but “we intend to break ground as soon as we receive the funds.”
Lackey said Kids, Inc. will be participating in this year’s Panhandle Gives campaign, which will run from Nov. 20 to Nov. 28, to not only highlight the season of giving within the community; He said it would also help increase donations. During.
Brock Carter, parent and donor for Kids, Inc., spoke of the benefits the planned park will bring to children as they grow older with a love of sports and community.
“As a parent of children who play at Kids Inc., I am truly grateful for what this organization has given to my children, my two little girls who play soccer. “Learning about how to communicate and how to communicate were really important skills. Working with others and learning new skills and how to win and how to lose,” Carter said.
“I think this new complex will be very important for my children because they will have a new play space, the possibility to meet more children and learn about new sports. , we’ll have a new, state-of-the-art, safe space.” There’s plenty of parking, and parents will love it. I think it’s great for kids to be part of a larger group and see and feel what it’s like to play sports in their own community. …but it would also be great for parents not to have to travel as much for tournaments and all of Amarillo, and to take people to hotels and restaurants and spend money they would have spent (elsewhere) in the community. ,” Carter added. .
Lackey said that because of this state-of-the-art complex, the majority of the funding will benefit parking, and the cost is necessary to allow parents and community members to enjoy the games regardless of location. The organization said it feels Park.
“Parking is very important, and when you look at the budget, it’s the biggest piece of the pie. But we don’t want to build a state-of-the-art facility and people can’t enjoy the game. .I can’t find a place to park,” Lucky said.
“This creates possibilities for sports in Amarillo, including youth as well as adult sports. It also creates opportunities for tournaments to be held in town, which benefits the city. … This is a regional “It’s a community project to benefit society, and we’re committed to it. We’re looking for the last $5.5 million to show what this facility means to Amarillo,” Lackey added. Ta.
