Two drivers led more than 1,000 laps this season. Seven people led more than 500 laps. This is a big change from the first year of the Next Generation era, when 11 drivers led more than 500 laps, but no one led more than 900 laps.
Most laps in 2023 Cup Series season
1. Kyle Larson (1,127) — Larson led at least one lap in 21 of 36 races. He led 99 laps at both Kansas State and Bristol during the playoffs. He led 133 laps in Las Vegas, winning and punching his ticket to Championship 4. Larson led 201 laps at Phoenix in the spring after starting from pole position.
2. William Byron (1,016) — Byron led the laps in 20 races this season. He led more than 100 of his laps in the spring races at Las Vegas (176 laps), Richmond (117 laps) and Dover (193 laps). Byron ended the season by leading 95 laps at Phoenix.
3. Denny Hamlin (998) — Hamlin led laps in 27 races this season. Until Darlington in the playoffs, he never led more than 100 laps in a race (177 laps). Hamlin led more than 100 laps at Bristol (142 laps) and Martinsville (156 laps).
4. Martin Truex Jr. (899) — Truex led the laps in 18 races this season. In the spring, he led 145 laps. Truex led 254 of 301 laps at Loudon in July, earning his third win of the season.
Five. Ross Chastain (640) — Chastain led the laps in 16 races this season. He never led more than 100 laps in a race until the season finale at Phoenix, when he led 157 laps and won.

6. Christopher Bell (599) — Bell led the laps in 21 races. There were only two races in which he led more than 100 laps. Both were in Bristol. Bell led 100 laps before winning the dirt race. He led 187 laps and finished third in the playoff race at Bristol.
7. Ryan Blaney (562) — Blaney led laps in 17 races. He won the Coca-Cola 600 for the first time, leading the 163 in Charlotte. Blaney led the way at Martinsville at 145, winning and advancing to Championship 4.
8. Tyler Reddick (470) — Redick led laps in 17 races this season. The most laps he led in a single race was 90 at Darlington, the start of the playoffs. He finished the race in second place behind Kyle Larson. Reddick started from pole position at Richmond in July and led 81 laps.
9. Brad Keselowski (341) — Keselowski led laps in 18 races. He led 102 laps at Richmond in the summer and finished 6th. He led 47 laps and finished second at Atlanta in the spring. Keselowski also led 42 laps in the Daytona 500.
10. Joey Logano (308) — Logano led the laps in 13 races this season, including four of the first five races. He led the majority of the laps (140 laps) after starting from pole position at Atlanta in the spring. Logano passed Keselowski on the final lap and won the race.
