In a strategic move aimed at bridging the skills gap in the automobile retail sector, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IES University, Bhopal. The partnership aims to introduce a pioneering three-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program in Retail Management from the 2023-24 academic year.
Jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and IES University, the BBA course is designed to provide students with a unique combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The curriculum is aligned with the specific requirements of the Indian automotive industry and follows the guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The program consists of one year of intensive classroom training followed by two years of on-the-job training (OJT) at Maruti Suzuki dealerships.
The on-the-job training period that is a hallmark of this program will be conducted at the Maruti Suzuki dealership in Bhopal. This practical experience allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world environment, improving their skills and understanding of the retail industry. Under the “earn while you learn” model, students receive a stipend during their on-the-job training.
Rahul Bharti, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “In line with the Government of India’s ‘Skill India’ mandate, Maruti Suzuki has launched a series of robust skill development programmes. I did,” he said. Through this collaboration, our aim is to provide quality training, improve student competency, increase employability and contribute to the creation of a skilled industry-ready workforce. ”
As part of the broader initiative, Maruti Suzuki has established three Japan-India Manufacturing Institutes (JIMs), adopted 22 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and partnered with 13 universities across India. The BBA program not only empowers students but also provides placement support to qualified candidates, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to building a skilled workforce for the future.
