Mercedes-Benz is a German brand that was founded exactly 96 years ago on June 28, 1926, by Karl Benz with the cooperation of rival Gottlieb Daimler. The factory’s control center is located in Stuttgart, Germany. From its inception to today, the company’s products range from luxury cars, vans, trucks, buses, and even ambulances. The history of this popular brand is so illustrious that in 2018 it sold more than 2.31 million passenger cars and was included in the list of the world’s largest car manufacturers. Achieving such a position in the highly competitive automotive industry is no easy feat.
This company dates back to before 1926. The origins of this major German car company lie in the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft’s Mercedes models of 1901 and the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen by Karl Benz. The latter is known as the first car equipped with an internal combustion engine. The important thing is that Benz and Daimler were rivals who had never met in their lifetime. However, their individual inventions and constant efforts eventually led to the formation of this brand. One thing that is very interesting is the company’s slogan. This is very much in line with its history and is “best or nothing”.

Without the presence of some geniuses, the birth and survival of the automobile industry might have been delayed by many years. These geniuses were named Benz, Daimler, and Wilhelm Maybach, and each in turn made significant contributions to the development of not only the automobile industry but also the world.
The acquaintance, friendship and cooperation between Daimler and Maybach became a turning point in the company’s history. Maybach later made great contributions to Mercedes-Benz as a talented designer and as a follower of Daimler.
In 1882, Daimler started his own workshop with the purchaser of the villa. After some time, Maybach also joined him and focused on building engines that were suitable for use in any vehicle. Their constant efforts led to the birth of the single-cylinder engine known today as the Grandfather His Clock.
On the other side of Germany, Karl Benz, along with two colleagues, Max Casper Rose and Friedrich Wilhelm Schlinger, founded the Benz company, which was later renamed Benz AG in 1899. After much effort, he was able to increase the number of employees to 25 and relocate the factory to a larger location. Despite all of Benz’s efforts, Rose and Slinger were not hopeful about the future of the business. Before leaving the factory and the group, Rose advised Benz not to waste time building the car. The company later became Germany’s largest engine manufacturing plant.
In 1885, Daimler and Maybach used the experience gained from building the Grand Clock to create a smaller single-cylinder engine. By installing this new engine into a fork-shaped bicycle, he succeeded in inventing the world’s first motorcycle, the Daimler Riding Car.
By the following year, 1886, the success of the Benz factory had reached such a level that it was able to devote most of its time to inventing the automobile. He succeeded in inventing an engine that could power his “horseless vehicle.” He decided to invent a new engine vehicle with his own hands. So he designed a three-wheeled product.

Some people believe that Karl Benz invented the first automobile in history. Before him, a French sea captain named Nicolas Joseph Cagno introduced automobiles powered by steam engines. In other words, Karl Benz is known throughout history as the inventor of the first internal combustion engine car. This car was none other than Benz’s patent his motor wagon known as the horseless carriage that came into the world in 1888.
The car’s engine was a single-cylinder 1.0 liter, and its output was less than 1 horsepower. However, the Motorwagen patent was a huge success thanks to the promotional methods of the Benz family, especially Bertha Benz, who is known as one of the most influential women in the automobile industry.
What’s interesting is that the price of this car at the time was around 600 marks. This was considered expensive considering its value as a luxury item.

Benz’s wife has always been his support and helper. In fact, the beginning of the automobile industry can be said to have begun when Karl Benz, with the help of his wife Bertha Benz’s investment, invented and registered Benz’s patent for a motor wagon. In the same year, Daimler and his comrade Maybach added gasoline engines to their buggies, changing history forever. Bertha Benz was the first woman to agree to drive long distances with her husband’s invention to promote the world’s first internal combustion engine car.
History of Benz after Daimler
Unfortunately, Daimler’s lifespan was too short to see the first Mercedes designed by Maybach in 1901. This model was introduced to the market by the famous DMG in the same year.
Later, the European entrepreneur Emil Gerinck began cooperating with DMG and was able to create this trademark in 1902. Mercedes His model was his 35 horsepower and Gelinck’s maiden name was Mercedes Gelinck. That is, the famous story that you have heard about the name Mercedes is true, but some people mistakenly believe that Mercedes is the daughter of Karl Benz. Jelinek played a very important role in the history of this company. Because he was a famous businessman who had access to the upper classes of society, and in this way he was able to successfully fit Daimler’s so-called “horseless” cars among the people. These people. It didn’t take long for celebrities and famous families to become his customers.
In 1902, DMG officially became the owner of the successful Mercedes brand. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz didn’t have a well-known trademark. It was then that Daimler’s sons remembered that their father had long used stars as hyacinths.
Therefore, the company’s management decided to present both the three-pointed star and the four-pointed star as trademarks, and the three-pointed star ended up being used as the company’s symbol and logo.
After World War I, business (particularly the sale of passenger cars, which were considered a luxury item) suffered greatly, and only strong companies with sufficient financial resources remained. Therefore, many brands and factories had to merge with other companies to survive. Finally, the Daimler and Benz factories were not spared from the post-war financial crisis, and in 1926 they created a new brand: Daimler-Benz AG. Now the brand was able to focus on proper advertising and the remaining positives and in 1926 introduced the first joint product of this new brand. In the 1930s, the brand successfully produced the 770 model, which was favored by Hitler because the glass was bulletproof.
