Late in the third quarter of Michigan’s 30-24 win over Ohio State, Ohio State offensive lineman Zach Ginter injured his left foot and was sent off the field. During a pass block set, Ginter’s foot rolled and a cart quickly sprung to life to carry him off the field while being attended to by medical personnel. He was taken from the stadium to the hospital for further treatment.
After the Wolverines’ win, interim coach Sherone Moore said she spoke with Ginter’s mother and received “good news.” Moore also said Ginter will be ready “very soon,” which bodes well for a Michigan team that is in great position to return to the College Football Playoff for the third straight season. .
The senior right guard ranks as the best lineman on Michigan’s roster and played over 600 snaps for the Wolverines in 2023. He was named a preseason and midseason All-American by the Associated Press, was a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, and remains a postseason contender for All-America honors. Ginter is the mainstay of Michigan’s back-to-back Joe Moore Award unit.
With Ginter out, Michigan slid tackle Carson Barnhart to right guard and placed senior tackle Trent Jones at right tackle. One play after Ginter was ejected, running back Blake Collum thwarted a 22-yard touchdown run and the Wolverines took the lead late.
