Fort Lauderdale — A Broward County principal and several staff members have been reassigned while Broward County officials investigate “allegations of inappropriate student participation in sports,” officials announced Monday.
In a written statement, the school district did not provide further details about the investigation, saying only that it involved the Monarch High School principal and several school staff members.
“While we are unable to comment further, we will continue to follow state law and take appropriate action based on the findings of our investigation,” district spokesman John Sullivan said in a written statement. “We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.”
Officials did not comment on the nature of the investigation or what prompted it.
The school, located at 5050 Wiles Road in Coconut Creek, has a total enrollment of 1,571 students, according to its website.
According to the school’s website, students at the school can participate in a variety of activities.
“Monarch students are provided leadership opportunities through co-curricular and co-curricular activities,” the district said. “Student council, clubs, choruses, bands, sports teams, debates, academic competitions, and other activities help students form connections with their school and community. School activities contribute to lifelong success. Develops a connected personality, critical thinking, and sociability.”
