Myanmar yesterday booked a spot in the 2023 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group V playoff round. The zonal event is currently being held in Saudi Arabia, with matches taking place on the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.
Myanmar defeated Bhutan 3-0 and earned their second consecutive win in Pool A of the tournament qualification, earning them a spot. Therefore, they are advancing with an unbeaten record so far and also defeated Bahrain in their first encounter.
Bahrain did not have a chance to play yesterday, but today they will face Bhutan to decide second place in the group. However, only the top teams from each of the four pools will advance to the playoffs. The Bahrain national team will feature top players Elias Abdulnabi, Faris Altubri, Shadi Khalel and Hassan Abdulnabi.
They are led by Abdulkarim Abdulnabi. In other matches yesterday, Nepal defeated Yemen 2-1 in Pool B. In Pool C, Maldives defeated Bangladesh 2-1. In Pool D, Laos defeated Tajikistan 3-0 and Brunei defeated Macau 2-1.
The competition will feature 13 men’s national teams from all over the continent. Today is the last day of the qualifying rounds, with the winners of each pool advancing to the playoffs. The two winners of this stage will advance to Group IV for next year’s Davis Cup competition.
