san antonio – San Antonio brokerage officials said San Antonio ISD’s decision this week to approve a “rightsizing” recommendation could have an impact on the real estate market.
San Antonio is known for its small-town feel. And David Anderson, a brokerage employee in the city, said his buyers are usually looking for that.
“Families are drawn to the home because they know the kids are doing well,” Anderson says. “San Antonio is a very rich and diverse community, and neighborhoods are key to that.”
Anderson said buying a home depends on what is available, affordable and accessible to buyers. San Antonio real estate has remained stable since the pandemic.
As SAISD moves forward with approving staff’s “rightsizing” recommendations that will allow the district to “use resources more efficiently,” real estate agents like Anderson say this will affect the district’s future real estate market. He said it could have an impact.
“Inventory and affordability are the two biggest factors driving the market,” Anderson said. “Even if prices don’t keep up with their purchasing ability and they simply can’t afford it, it’s not unattainable.”
On Monday, the board approved resolutions including two withdrawn proposals, two withdrawn and amended proposals, seven amended proposals, and 14 continued proposals. The district said the change in size would reallocate more resources to students, but families said it could change the identity of the neighborhood.
Anderson said the decision will have a different impact on current homeowners and future homebuyers.
“Homeowners are being affected in a number of ways because their lives have been disrupted,” Anderson said. “So that’s very different from a buyer joining a community.”
As San Antonio continues to grow and more people move into Bexar County, buyers are leaning toward neighborhoods on the West Side, Northeast Side and South Side, Anderson said.
“People are moving there,” Anderson said.
