The Wolfpack women’s cross country was successful again, winning the NCAA Championship for the third consecutive year. The second-ranked North Carolina State team defeated first-place Northern Arizona by one point to take first place.
NC State women’s cross country had a great season, finishing first in all but one race as a team. After winning their eighth consecutive ACC Championship title, the Red-White team won their seventh consecutive NCAA Regionals title. The Pack had plenty of momentum and high expectations when they traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia for the national championship race.
Senior Caitlin Toohey was North Carolina State’s top runner. Toohey recorded a time of 19 minutes 23.0 seconds, placing him fifth overall. Her time was faster than the 2022 NCAA Championships 6K, but she fell behind about halfway through the race and she had to fight for fifth place.
Junior Amaris Tinismaa placed 25th with a time of 19:55.3 and senior Sam Bush placed 28th with a time of 20:00.07. Freshman Leah Stevens ran a time of 20:08.2, placing 43rd. Sophomore Grace Hartman placed 63rd with a time of 20:24.4. Sophomore Hannah Gapes placed 73rd with a time of 20:30.2, followed by fourth-year Gionna Quarzo, who paced in 102nd place and finished with a time of 20:41.4.
North Carolina State University’s men’s team also sent a team to compete in the 10k race in Charlottesville. The Pack finished 17th overall. Two Wolf Pack runners finished in the top 100. Senior Brett Gardner ran a time of 30:00.1 and placed 51st. In 71st place was graduate student Hannes Berger, who ran a time of 30 minutes 16.1 seconds.
Graduate student Toby Galter finished in 102nd place, and senior Daniel McGaughey was not far behind in 112th place. At North Carolina State, seniors Ian Harrison and Zach Hughes followed suit, finishing 190th and 192nd, respectively.
