The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently announced a series of vehicle recalls affecting millions of vehicles. Specifically, this includes approximately 1 million Toyota vehicles and more than 79,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles due to fuel pump problems.
If you want to know if your car is affected, check the Automotive Recall Database or NHTSA. The latter allows you to search for recalls using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Today we’ll take a quick look at some of the major recalls announced between December 24th and January 1st.
Toyota recall – airbag issue
Approximately 1 million Toyota vehicles (999,901 to be exact) are being recalled due to a risk of a short circuit in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor, which could prevent passenger airbags from deploying. . The dealer will offer a free inspection and replacement of his OCS sensor and a notification letter will be sent to the vehicle owner on February 4, 2024.
Models affected by this recall include the Avalon and its hybrid versions, Camry and its hybrid versions, Corolla, RAV4 and its hybrid versions, and several Lexus models.
Mercedes-Benz recalls – fuel pump and possible fuel and oil leaks
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 79,676 vehicles from 2021 to 2024 because their fuel pumps can stop, leading to a loss of drive and an increased risk of collision. In addition, seven 2023 GLC 300, 2024 GLE 350, and GLE 450 SUVs are being recalled due to insufficient seals, which can cause fuel or oil leaks, pose a road hazard, and cause fires. The risk may be increasing. Both recalls will provide free replacement of affected parts by dealers, and notification letters to owners will be sent out in February 2024.
Kia Sorento Recall – Engine Issues
A total of 79,812 2011 Kia Sorento SUVs have been recalled due to the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving. Dealers will install Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software and replace the engine if necessary at no charge to the owner. Letters notifying owners of the recall are expected to be sent out by February 9, 2024.
Additional critical recalls
Other notable recalls include 17,970 2023 Ford F-150 and Ford SD F250 to F600 trucks due to a risk of airbag failure and 17,970 Hyundai 2024 Kono trucks due to a possible short circuit. This includes 10,984 SUVs, including various 2024 models from General Motors (Chevrolet and GMC). There is a risk that the car door may open unexpectedly.
