A characterful historic bayside home with rare Edwardian features, boasting panoramic views of Moreton Bay and a rich history has hit the market for the first time in over 40 years.
30 Melville Terrace, Wynnum was owned by the late local icon Iris Brewer and the late real estate legend Don Brewer, who passed away earlier this year.
Three generations of the Brewer family have lived in this home.
Their son Peter Brewer, chairman of the Real Estate Association of Queensland, said the house had been in the family since 1980.
“About 43 years ago, my mom and dad bought a house at auction. The main house was upstairs and the dental office was downstairs. The house was an important part of our family,” Brewer said. Told.
“Having family members who have worked in real estate, Mom and Dad always had an eye for high-quality finishes. The attic had a hollow roof, so Mom and Dad hired a local architect to do the job. The house had wonderful views over Moreton Bay.
“My two children live downstairs or in the back of the apartment. We celebrated our 40th anniversary in front of the fireplace. I will miss the rich variety of spaces and memories. There were so many wonderful things. I Her mother was a cabaret singer who continued her musical career by giving concerts at her home for 60 to 70 people to raise funds for various charity events. We played jazz.”
Mr Brewer said some time ago that Wynnum was considered far from central Brisbane, even though it was only a 35-minute drive away.
“I was at events in the city and people thought it was far away. Come on, it’s Brisbane’s gateway. I can’t believe it took this long for Wynnum to get off the ground. I’m surprised,” he said.
“I hope the new owners stay true to the original tradition, because you can tastefully modernize a property like this. They should be able to relate to the existing character. You can use beautiful old brick renders or hideous modern ones. I see real estate being ruined by people trying to build new buildings.

“It’s a luxury property, it has great views, and it’s something different. This is a Bayside landmark and we hope it becomes someone’s family home and creates some great memories.”
Real estate agents Rohan Banning and Lynn Griffiths of Brisbane’s RE/MAX Central Residential said the campaign was a success.
“That’s great. Buyers love the look of the property. There’s one room that’s the main living area and people stand there and relax. One of the interested groups I’ve driven five hours to see them. They think Brisbane’s amazing and most livable suburbs won’t hold back,” Ms Griffiths said.

“There was so much love for this property online as well. We are both amazed at how this property has been received by the public.
“Given the real estate history of this home, we are honored to have been chosen to sell the property. Our selection for the job is one of the milestones of my career. I have to hold my breath sometimes.”
Mr Banning said many local residents were aware of the house and it had attracted a lot of attention.
“Interest ranges from local residents to out-of-state buyers. When you sell something in this area, you’re sure to get a lot of interest,” he said.
“It was the #1 viewed property in Queensland on realestate.com.au.
“This property is looking for a family to confine it, love it and bring it back into the modern day.”
30 Melville Terrace, Wynnum, will go to auction on December 9 at 9am.
