As Diwali approaches, the auto industry is gearing up to offer discounts as customers tend to buy cars and two-wheelers during the festive period.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited recorded nationwide sales of 199,217 units in October (167,520 units in the same period last year).
Sales volume in the light segment, which consists of Alto and Espresso, decreased, recording 14,568 units in October this year, compared to 24,936 units in the same month in 2022.
The compact segment, which includes Baleno, Celerio, Desire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and Wagon R, witnessed an increase in sales, with sales reaching 80,662 units in October this year, compared to 73,685 units last year.
“We are tentatively offering discounts of Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000 on cars like Brezza and Swift as they have higher profit margins. However, cars like Ertiga are already in demand, so we cannot discount them. We cannot do that,” said Mahesh Bhatt, manager of Maruti Arena Showroom in Noida.
“Overall, we saw we were able to sell about 200 units. [in each of the Maruti Arena showrooms] Even just in October. Sales have increased since last year, and they plan to sell 150 units by mid-November. Most of the sales take place during Dhanteras and Diwali festivals,” he added.
The Maruti Arena showroom, which displays popular cars such as Swift, Gilet, Wagon R and Ertiga, is selling the Brezza, Alto K10, Espresso and Celerio at discounted prices ranging from Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000. Wagon R and Swift are eligible for discounts of up to Rs 44,000.
The Nexa showroom, which features cars like Baleno, Ignis and Ciaz, is priced up to Rs 75,000.
Hero Moto Corp has announced its second edition of Hero GIFT i.e. Grand Indian Festival of Trust in a bid to increase sales this year.

Hero MotoCorp will also be offering several new benefits in 2024, including a cash bonus of up to Rs 5,500, an exchange bonus of up to Rs 3,000, and an exciting Buy Now Pay Now finance scheme.
According to the program, customers also get the opportunity to secure loans at low interest rates of 6.99% and benefit from Aadhar-based loans and convenient cash EMIs with no hypothetical charges. Hero MotoCorp is also planning a pan-India 360-degree campaign across TV, print, digital and OOH. “We do not offer discounts on popular bikes like Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe, but we do offer a bonus of Rs 3,000 on exchange offers,” said a sales representative at the Hero Moto Corporation showroom in Kashmere Gate. ” he said.
“This starts here with Navratri and will continue into the Diwali and Dhanteras seasons as well.”
Hyundai also offers exchange offers and direct discounts after the Christmas season. The company’s Alcazar has surpassed Creta in terms of sales and offers discounts of up to Rs 20,000. Additionally, the company is also offering discounts of up to Rs 33,000 on the Hyundai Aura, up to Rs 43,000 on the Grand i10 Nios and up to Rs 30,000 on the i20.
Similarly, Ola Electric is also offering discounts of up to Rs 24,500 on electric scooters and up to Rs 10,000 off on exchange offers. The offer scheme also includes a 5-year battery warranty on Ola S1 Pro 2nd generation and 50% battery extension discount on S1 Air.
