As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the integrity of the academic record, Science Journal has partnered with Proofig AI image integrity software.
Proofig AI enables authors to solve image-related problems before their papers are published. He also ensures the highest standards of accuracy for the research published in his six Science journals.
“Hard data is the foundation of our publications,” said Valda Vinson, editor-in-chief of Science magazine. “Manipulation or duplication of images, whether intentional or mistaken, impacts trust in our content. We are committed to addressing these issues, including exploring innovative technology that can assist editors. We are working on prevention.”
The six science family journals published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science span multiple disciplines and feature a variety of images, each containing valuable information supporting related research. I am. Image accuracy is very important.
Before a paper is published in a science journal, it undergoes various checks, including checks for image integrity. However, until recently, image screening was largely manual and extremely time-consuming.
In the summer of 2023, Science Journal began a trial of Proofig AI on selected manuscripts during the revision phase. Proofig AI can detect many of the most common image integrity issues, including image manipulation and duplication, which can represent serious fraud. However, even when duplications occur due to honest mistakes, the integrity of the academic record is compromised and corrective action is required.
“The ability to better detect duplicates in images is especially helpful for editorial teams, as duplicates are difficult to spot with the naked eye,” Vinson said.
Powered by enhanced visualization technology, Proofig AI’s filters help editors flag concerns about images for more thorough investigation. The editor then decides how to proceed, seeking clarification from the author if necessary.
So far, some image issues found in science journal papers have required editors to contact authors to resolve issues such as erroneous duplications.
The authors are grateful that problems were discovered before publication rather than after publication, as this could include the need for corrections, retractions, or even reputational damage.
Proofig AI will become especially important for journals as the Science family grows in volume and the number of images that require careful screening increases.
Dror Kolodkin-Gal, co-founder of Proofig AI, said: “By automating image integrity checks within the publication workflow, science journals can streamline the publication process prior to manuscript acceptance and ensure the highest standards of integrity. It’s great that we are now able to secure this.” “Proofig empowers editorial teams to make faster, more informed decisions. As prestigious publishers like these leverage our AI tools, even more publishers can make more sophisticated decisions before publishing. It could be possible to guarantee integrity guarantees. Overall, this would benefit everyone involved, and the scientific community.”

I liked it as much as you did. Even though the picture and writing are good, you’re looking forward to what comes next. If you defend this walk, it will be pretty much the same every time.
