Hello, I’m your host, Austin Knoblauch. He is filling in for Houston Mitchell, who is probably busy preparing for tryouts for the Rams’ kicker. Let’s get to the news right away.
From J. Brady McCollough: Facing 4th-and-2 at his own 33-yard line, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh pocketed three timeouts with 3:19 left and conservatively led Alabama with a touchdown. I could have taken it. No one would have blamed Harbaugh for once again trusting his dominant defense, as his offense was shut down throughout the second half.
No one, including his father, watched anxiously in the stands, wondering if the Wolverines would make another miserable trip home from Pasadena.
“When I was with Bo Schembechler back in the day, I didn’t even think about it. I just punted,” former Michigan State assistant coach Jack Harbaugh, 84, later said of his son’s decision. He looked back and said. “And now there’s this thing called analysis, and all these different things are way beyond me, so my job is usually to punt on it.”

But Jim Harbaugh has said all season that his quarterback, JJ McCarthy, is the standard bearer at the position at Michigan, even better than Hedman himself. Harbaugh backed up his words Monday night by handing the ball over to McCarthy, whose season is on the line.
McCarthy converted with a nifty pass to running back Blake Collum, who slipped out of the backfield uncovered and gained 27 yards. On the next play, McCarthy kept the ball for 16 yards. McCarthy then found receiver Roman Wilson for a 29-yard gain. Two plays later, McCarthy again hit Wilson with a 4-yard touchdown pass to tie the score with 1:38 left in the game, setting up a game that will go down as one of the most classic Rose Bowl games of all time.
Can Michigan overcome the series of unspeakable special teams mistakes that gave life to the Crimson Tide so many times and complete the comeback in overtime?
“When we scored and forced overtime, I thought it was over,” Corum said. “Just like we thought Alabama was probably over for us with that last Ph.D.

rams
From Gary Klein: Seven games into the season, the Rams cut kicker Brett Maher, citing inconsistent performance.
The Rams now have Maher back for the final game of the season and playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers.
On Monday, the day after Lukas Havrisik missed two extra-point attempts in a 26-25 win over the New York Giants, the Rams waived Havrisik and agreed to terms with Maher.
“Once we get to the playoffs, it definitely changes the conversation a little bit in terms of knowing what we’re going to do,” McVay said in a video conference with reporters. “So we wanted to bring someone here with some experience.”

clippers
From Andrew Greif: There was a familiar roar at Crypto.com Arena on Monday night when Kawhi Leonard was inserted into the Clippers’ starting lineup. It was the sound of everyone breathing a sigh of relief at being reunited with Leonard, who had missed four consecutive games with a left hip contusion.
Less than two quarters later, there was a moment of anxiety when Leonard, fouled and grabbed an offensive rebound, rolled onto the court and landed hard on the same hip — if you’ve ever seen him come and go. It’s a fear that everyone knows all too well. He was out of the lineup due to injury.
But this time, unlike the Dec. 20 game against Dallas in which Leonard aggravated his injury, he quickly got back on his feet, made the free throw, and returned to change his team’s fortunes in his first game back.
Leonard scored 13 points in the second quarter as the Clippers overcame a 14-point deficit to take a one-point lead by halftime. They never relinquished that advantage as they improved to 20-12 with a 121-104 win over Miami.
Leonard made 10 of 19 shots and added six rebounds, five assists and four steals for 24 points. They turned the ball over just twice in 34 minutes.
“he [does] All the little invisible things,” teammate Paul George said of Leonard. “That’s very reliable.”

angels
From Sara Valenzuela: Right-handed starting pitcher Zach Plesac and the Angels have agreed to a major league contract for the 2024 season, according to a person familiar with the deal who was not authorized to speak publicly.
The contract is still awaiting physical inspection.
Plesac joins a rotation group that includes Patrick Sandoval, Reid Detmers, Tyler Anderson and Griffin Canning, while other starting options include Chase Silses and Jose Suarez.
Plesac’s entry into the league in 2019 was certainly intriguing — a young pitcher relatively unknown to Angels fans, for example, who lost a shutout game in September at Angel Stadium. You may remember that. However, after the 2019 season, things were not quite the same.

horse racing
From Bill Dwyer: The horse racing world never wanted Zenyatta’s story to end, never wanted her pre-race dance steps to go away or her mad dash from improbable end to first to stop. . But as time passed, Zenyatta’s story drifted away, and milestones were needed to bring back her memories.
It’s truly a milestone. Zenyatta turns 20 on January 1st.
Actually, like many things in sports, even that is a little confusing. All Thoroughbreds turn one year older on the first day of the new year. Zenyatta was born on April 1, 2004. She was a daughter of Street Cry, the sire of the Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, but there was no greater moment for her sire than the birth of Zenyatta.
Zenyatta was owned by the recently deceased Jerry Moss and his wife Anne, who did the unthinkable by running it a year longer than the norm for this kind of car. She was in great shape one day when the Mosses called a small group of sportswriters into the box at Santa Anita and told them they had decided to race this amazing mare for another year, her sixth year. was. She was worth a truckload of Brink for her breeding rights, and she was very likely to get hurt soon. But the Mosses said the race was worth seeing as much of her as possible.
