ST. JAMES — After a five-year absence from the Tomahawk East League, St. James will return for the next baseball season.
“We (Tomahawk East League) accepted them unanimously at the league meeting Wednesday night.” TEL President Myron Seidl said:
St. James last played in TEL in 2018.
“Six of them came to our meeting and gave a great presentation.” Seidl said. “I’m glad they’re back.
“For the last five years at (TEL) it was called the St. James Express, and before that it was the St. James A’s, and from now on it will be known as the A’s.”
St. James was a baseball powerhouse in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1989, St. James took second place at the state tournament.
Seidl said St. James left the TEL after the 2018 season due to a lack of players.
“Rather than forfeit the game, they decided to take a vacation. And the next year they dropped out, saying they didn’t have the numbers.” Seidl said. “They presented a roster of 24 names and some players.” [on the roster] We played at Mountain Lake. But what we were told was [Wednesday] That said, most of the players on the roster are from St. James.
“And the reason they decided not to apply last year was because most of their players played region baseball. This year, they say they only have two players on their roster who also play region baseball. ”
The addition of the A’s to TEL means the league will finalize a 16-game regular season schedule in the near future.
“When the playoffs come, we’ll narrow it down to 12 teams and play pigtail games. Everything is still being worked out.”
Seidl added that St. James also has a number of commitments to its parks.
Doug Jones will be the A’s manager and will be assisted by Jared Schwantz.
