The northern municipality is taking a firm stance against the rampant problem of random waste in public spaces and residential areas. To address this issue, individuals caught dumping waste indiscriminately will be subject to hefty fines of up to BD300.
Increased urban development in the northern provinces has led to a surge in construction activities, resulting in a significant increase in construction waste. This waste poses a major challenge to local governments if not managed properly.
The prefecture has witnessed a significant number of building permits being issued for private housing, alongside large amounts of construction debris being dumped on vacant lots.
clean campaign
To address this pressing issue, the municipality has launched a major cleaning campaign in the Hamara area as part of its waste removal plan. The campaign successfully removed 18 construction waste and debris from the area.
The aim of this initiative is to eliminate construction waste littering vacant lots, instill a sense of responsibility among residents, and raise awareness of the proper disposal of construction waste.
Engineer Lamia Al Fadalla, Director General of the Northern Regional Municipality, emphasized the importance of complying with the Public Health Law No. 10 of 2019. She appealed to the public not to engage in haphazard waste disposal, especially when it comes to construction waste. Instead, she emphasized the need to follow the guidelines set by law.
global issues
Kai Meeting, a waste entrepreneur and environmental activist, told the Daily Tribune: “Illegal dumping of waste is a common problem around the world and is usually done in an attempt to keep the area or neighborhood clean. Not residents who throw trash near their homes. “It’s just careless people who dispose of unwanted trash for free and try to throw it away from their homes onto private property.”
Furthermore, “Germany has a waste police that investigates who disposes illegally. When that person is caught, they are subject to fines and redress or appropriate action so that people can learn from their mistakes.” A culling will be enforced. This can also be implemented in Bahrain. It will create new jobs and awareness in the local community.”
