The Cowboys proved they are the best team in the NFC East with a 33-13 win over the Eagles, but they still need help to win the division.
Dallas and Philadelphia, who have split home and home series this season, are both 10-3. Both teams lost to the 49ers. However, Philadelphia ended up with a better conference record, as the Cowboys lost to the Cardinals and the Eagles lost to the Jets. For now, anyway.
The Cowboys fell within inches against Philadelphia earlier this season, but there was no question on Sunday night who was the better team.
They led from start to finish, scoring on their opening drive and leading 24-6 at halftime.
After Jalen Carter returned Dak Prescott’s fumble 42 yards to cut the Cowboys’ lead to 24-13, the Eagles looked to make a play. Philadelphia had a chance to get within 27-20, but the Cowboys homered on a fourth-and-8 from the Dallas 30 with 30 seconds left in the third quarter.
Hurts’ throw was rushed and DeVonta Smith caught the ball for a 1-yard gain before Stephon Gilmore took it down. Gilmore had a team-leading nine tackles and a forced fumble.
The Eagles’ best offensive players, Hurts, Smith, and AJ Brown, each lost a fumble and the ball in Dallas 31, Philadelphia 49, and Dallas 35 games. The Eagles also came back on downs in the Dallas 30 game to settle the score. After reaching Dallas, Jake Elliott hit field goals, scoring 34 and 26 points.
Hurts was 18-of-27 for 197 yards and rushed for 30 yards on five carries, while Brown caught nine passes for 94 yards.
The Eagles are currently on a losing streak by a combined score of 75-32.
The Cowboys won 15 straight games at home, becoming the first team to beat a team with a current winning streak.
They scored on seven of nine possessions, with rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey making field goals of 60, 59, 45 and 50 yards. He went 30 hits for 30 at bats, an NFL career start record.
The Cowboys punted in the third quarter, but it was their first punt since the third quarter on Thanksgiving.
The team gained 394 yards, and Prescott completed 24 of 39 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns, putting him firmly in the MVP conversation.
Jake Ferguson caught five passes for 72 yards and CeeDee Lamb caught six passes for 71 yards and a score. Michael Gallup and Rico Doodle scored the other touchdowns for the Cowboys.
