The Vikings started quarterback Jalen Hall to reduce turnovers.
That didn’t happen for two quarters, and the Packers led 23-3 against Minnesota at halftime.
A pass thrown by Jalen Hall in the first quarter was tipped and intercepted, leading to a 33-yard touchdown from Jordan Love to Jaden Reed.
Then, late in the second quarter, Hall was sacked by Preston Smith, lost a fumble, and the ball was recovered by Carl Brooks. A few plays later, Reid struggled to the end zone and scored a 25-yard touchdown, giving the Packers a 20-point lead at halftime.
But Anders Karlsson missed the extra point, keeping the lead at 21 points. He made a 34-yard field goal early in the game.
Love also rushed for a 2-yard touchdown to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive in the second quarter. He gained 180 yards in the first half, going 14-of-21. Reed was the club’s leading receiver with six receptions for 89 yards.
The Packers could have scored again, but a fourth-down pass from Love to a wide-open Bo Melton was dropped deep in Minnesota’s territory.
The Vikings were largely ineffective offensively. Hall looked overwhelmed, finishing the half 5-of-10 with 67 yards on a pick and a lost fumble. Justin Jefferson had just one catch for 13 yards. Jordan Addison had one catch for 20 yards.
Minnesota only had five first downs for 81 total yards and was 0-of-4 on third downs.
Linebacker Isaiah McDuffie had to leave the game with just over 10 minutes left in the second quarter because Devondre Campbell had already been ejected. The Packers announced he was out with a concussion.
After Green Bay won the first coin toss and elected to receive, the Vikings would receive the second half kickoff. The Packers started the game with a three-and-out.
