The Cybertruck has fascinated millions of ordinary people as well as celebrities who know a lot about automotive design. The legendary designer of the DeLorean expressed his admiration for Elon Musk and Tesla’s electric pickup truck.
Italian design legend Giorgetto Giugiaro called the Tesla Cybertruck the “Picasso of cars” in an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica (via car news). Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and inventor of a new form of painting. At the dawn of his career, he paid special attention to converting shapes into geometric blocks and cutting them into planes and edges. Picasso revolutionized painting because of his courage, and “he was an artist who deconstructed reality,” Giugiaro said.
Like Picasso, Tesla CEO Elon Musk disrupted traditional ideas of what a pickup truck should be, the designers noted. Giugiaro is the creator of the unique 1981 stainless steel DeLorean DMC 12 with gull wings, made famous by the Back to the Future movie trilogy.
Giugiaro believes Cybertruck has the potential to be a huge success. “This project will be a great success because people want to stand out. It represents not a search for harmony or perfection, but a search for emotion and solidity,” said Giugiaro.
His son, car designer Fabrizio, also praised the Cybertruck. He said Musk’s bold design was a result of his understanding of people’s desire to stand out.
“I admire Elon Musk for having the courage and for understanding people’s desire to stand out,” Fabrizio said.
The Cybertruck has also received attention and praise from automotive designers. François Leboine, head of concept cars at French car giant Renault, previously called the Tesla Cybertruck a “perfect design.” He praised Tesla’s striking and innovative design.
“This is very interesting. As a design exercise, [Tesla Cybertruck] “You’re touching on the opposite,” he said. “On the one hand, being iconic is the perfect design practice. For designers, of course, iconic is the best, because you can be instantly recognized and separate yourself from the world. . And what better way to make yourself known than by creating a very simple and simplistic design, which of course is immediately iconic.”
