All air arrivals are from commercial aircraft and are generated using primary inspection kiosk (PIK) data only. His PIK was deployed at Toronto Pearson International Airport Terminal 1 on June 22, 2021, and as of July 2021, these arrivals are included in the total count, resulting in improved coverage . In 2022, PIK accounted for approximately 92% of civil aviation arrivals.
The number of arrivals entering the country by motor vehicle through land ports with automated integrated primary inspection line (IPIL) systems represents a portion of the trips of U.S. residents and the return trips of Canadian residents by motor vehicle. In 2022, IPIL land ports accounted for approximately 89% of all vehicle entries.
In January 2022, some IPIL ports switched mode from land to sea. Arrivals at these ports in 2019 accounted for a small portion (0.7%) of all arrivals entering or returning to Canada by motor vehicle.
