1943 — Sid Luckman of the Chicago Bears becomes the first professional player to pass for more than 400 yards (433 yards) and seven touchdowns in a 56-7 victory over the New York Giants. Ta.
1964 — Gus Johnson and Walt Bellamy become the first NBA teammates to each score 40 points as the Baltimore Bullets defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 127–115. Johnson had 41 points and Bellamy had 40 points.
1964 — Detroit’s Gordie Howe scores his 627th career goal, making him the NHL’s all-time leading scorer, including playoffs. Howe lost 4-2 to Montreal’s Charlie Hodge.
1965 — Gary Cuozzo, filling in for injured Johnny Unitas, throws five touchdown passes to lead the Baltimore Colts to a 41-21 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
1966 — Muhammad Ali retains the world heavyweight title by knocking out Cleveland Williams in three rounds in Houston.
1970 — Chartered plane crashes in Kenova, West Virginia, killing 43 members of the Marshall football team.
1993 — Don Shula breaks George Halas’ career wins record with 325 as the Miami Dolphins defeat Philadelphia 19-14. Shula’s record: 325-153-6 in 31 seasons with Baltimore and Miami. Halas has 324 wins, 151 losses and 31 draws in 40 seasons with Chicago.
2004 — Chicago’s 19-17 win over Tennessee marks the second time an NFL game ends in overtime with a safety.
2004 — John and Ashley Force become the first father-daughter duo in NHRA history to win the same season-ending event. John Force will be racing for his 114th Funny Car victory, and his 21-year-old daughter will compete in the top alcohol class at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway.
2009 — Toby Gerhart ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns as Stanford defeated Southern California 55-21. This was the most points ever conceded by the Trojans, who played their first game in 1888.
2009 — Daniel Passafiume catches 25 passes at Division III Hanover College, setting an NCAA record for most receptions in a single game. Passafiume finished with 153 yards receiving and two touchdowns in the 42-28 loss to Franklin.
2010 — John Force wins an NHRA-record 15th Funny Car season championship, an improbable departure from the horrific accident in Dallas three years earlier that put the 61-year-old star’s racing future in serious jeopardy. He made an impressive comeback. Force becomes the oldest champion in NHRA history on the same day the series crowned its youngest champion, 20-year-old Pro Stock motorcycle rider LE Tonlett.
2010 — The New York Jets defeat the Browns 26-20 in overtime at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Jets won 23-20 in OT last week at Ford Field in Detroit, becoming the first team in NFL history to win consecutive road games in overtime.
2015 — Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds breaks the NCAA career rushing touchdown record by scoring four points and scoring 81 total touchdowns in the No. 22 Midshipmen’s 55-14 victory over SMU .
2015 — Kellen Dunham scores 24 points and No. 24 Butler beats The Citadel, 144-71, breaking four school records. The 144 points were the most points scored by a team in a men’s college basketball game between two DI schools since 1997, when TCU defeated Texas and Pan American 153-87.
2017 — Grayson Allen, Duke’s only senior, scores a career-high 37 points and freshman Trevon Duvall has 17 points and 10 assists to lead the team in the Champions Classic in Chicago. The Blue Devils defeated No. 2 Michigan State 88-81. Wendell Carter Jr. added 12 points and 12 rebounds to help Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski improve to 12-1 in his career against Michigan State.

1879 — Princeton defeats Harvard 1-0 in a college football game in New Jersey. The Tigers introduced the concept of using blockers to advance the ball.
1890 — Minnesota and Wisconsin meet for the first time in what is the most played series in college football history. The Gophers defeated the Badgers 63-0 in Minneapolis.
1901 — Jim Jeffries retains the world heavyweight title by knocking out Gus Lulin in six rounds in San Francisco.
1913 — Ernie Parker of Australia defeats Harry Parker of New Zealand 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 to win the Australian Championship.
1952 — An NBA record 13 players (five from the Baltimore Bullets and eight from the Syracuse Nationals) fouled out in overtime. The Bullets won 97-91. So many Syracuse players fouled that officials forced some players back into the game so the Nationals could keep five players on the court. Each time these players fouled, Baltimore was awarded a technical foul shot in addition to the free throw.
1960 — Elgin Baylor of the Los Angeles Lakers scores 71 points, a then-NBA record, in a 123-108 victory over the New York Knicks.
1964 — Kansas City quarterback Len Dawson fumbles seven times in a 28-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
1969 — The New York Knicks defeat the Boston Celtics 113-98, achieving a 17-1 record, the best start in NBA history.
1969 — Florida State’s Bill Cappleman passes for 508 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-26 loss to Memphis State.
1975 — Pittsburgh’s Tony Dorsett rushes for 303 yards and a touchdown in a 34-20 victory over Notre Dame.
1980 — Dale Earnhardt wins his first NASCAR Winston Cup victory. Earnhardt finished fifth in the season finale, the Los Angeles Times 500, winning the title with a 19-point lead over Cale Yarborough.
1983 — Mike Bossie scores his 75th hat trick for the New York Islanders.
2002 — Tampa Bay forward Dave Andrejczak sets an NHL record by scoring his 250th career power play goal in the first period of the Lightning’s game against San Jose.
2003 — Brian Vickers finishes 11th behind first-time winner Casey Kern at Homestead-Miami Speedway to win the Busch Series title and become the youngest champion in NASCAR history.
2011 — Mike Krzyzewski becomes the Division I all-time leader as No. 6 Duke defeats Michigan State 74-69 in the State Farm Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York. He became the winning men’s basketball coach. The Blue Devils gave Coach K his 903rd win, breaking a tie with Bob Knight, Krzyzewski’s former coach at Army War College and mentor throughout his pro career.
2014 — Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon breaks college football’s major single-game rushing record with 408 yards in a 59-24 win over Nebraska before missing the final quarter.
2015 — Matthew Stafford throws two touchdowns and the Detroit Lions end a 24-game road losing streak with an 18-16 victory over the Green Bay Pax. It was Detroit’s first win at Green Bay since Dec. 15, 1991, when they won 21-17.
2018 — LeBron James passes Wilt Chamberlain for fifth place on the NBS all-time scoring list.

1929 — Southern California and Notre Dame play in front of 112,912 people at Chicago’s Soldier Field, with the Fighting Irish winning 13-12. It will be the third time since the 1920s that both schools have attracted more than 112,000 fans.
1957 — Notre Dame ends Oklahoma’s NCAA winning streak at 47 with a 7-0 victory.
1957 — Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics sets an NBA record with 49 rebounds in a 111-89 victory over the Philadelphia Warriors.
1962 — Wilt Chamberlain scores 73 points, including 45 in the first half, to lead the San Francisco Warriors to a 127-111 victory over the New York Knicks.
1968 — Ron Johnson rushes for 347 yards and five touchdowns to lead the University of Michigan to a 34-9 victory over the University of Wisconsin.
1976 — Rick Barry of the San Francisco Warriors ends the NBA’s longest free throw streak at 60 in a 110-102 win over the Seattle SuperSonics. Barry scored 33 points, including 9 of 10 from the free throw line.
1980 — Doug Williams of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers passes for 486 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-30 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
1982 — NFL Management Council and NFL Players Association announce resolution of 57-day player strike.
1991 — Jerry Thomas of No. 1 Florida State misses a football-length, 34-yard field goal with 25 seconds left, giving No. 2 Miami a 17-16 victory.
1993 — Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf of the Denver Nuggets’ free throw streak ends at 81 in an 86-74 loss to San Antonio. Abdul-Rauf’s streak is the second-longest in NBA history, behind the record of 97 set by Minnesota’s Michael Williams a week ago.
1996 — Texas Tech’s Byron Hunspard becomes the sixth major college player to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, rushing for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the Red Raiders’ 56-21 victory over Southwest Louisiana. He became a player.

2013 — Ricardo Ruiz deflects a 73-yard pass on fourth-and-18 with 25 seconds left and scores, giving No. 7 Auburn a stunning 43-38 victory over No. 25 Georgia.
2014 — Erica Enders Stevens wins the Auto Club NHRA Finals, becoming the first woman to win a Pro Stock World Championship title.
2017 — James Harden scored 23 of his 48 points in the second quarter and Houston scored 90 points in the first half to beat Phoenix 146-116. The Rockets made 61 percent of their shots in the first half, the second-most points in a first half in NBA history.
