Ghana and the United Kingdom (UK) have signed bilateral commitments and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to foster partnership in the automotive sector, animal health, science, technology and innovation.
The 9th UK-Ghana Business Council meeting held in Accra, co-chaired by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia and UK Minister for Development and Africa Andrew Mitchell, saw the two countries discuss concrete measures to accelerate trade and trade. agreed on specific actions. The 9th UK-Ghana Business Council was organized by the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UK-GCC).
Mr Mitchell recognized the importance of a £5m multilateral development assistance (ODA)-funded technical partnership focused on improving animal health during a meeting with Minister for Food and Rural Affairs, Dr Brian Achiampong. . This contract was signed in 2022.
This initiative aims to strengthen terrestrial and aquatic animal health systems by strengthening disease prevention, detection, and response mechanisms.
Focused on increasing productivity and resilience in the agricultural sector, the project has already benefited more than 228 communities in Ghana and has shown tangible impact on the ground.
Additionally, Mitchell highlighted transformative achievements in the automotive sector and unveiled plans for a new green cities and infrastructure program aimed at mobilizing climate finance.
Reflecting on the enduring friendship between the two countries, he noted that cooperative efforts over the past five years have paved the way for economic prosperity, innovation and common growth.

The meeting with officials, including Deputy Minister of Finance John Kuma, highlighted continued cooperation and discussions on the progress of International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs.
Minister Mitchell also took part in a discussion on the priorities of the Climate Fragility Forum, highlighting how the UK, as chair, can support Ghana.
British officials also met with Minister of National Security Albert Kandapaah to discuss strengthening collaborative efforts between the two countries through ECOWAS and the Accra Initiative, building on the recent Third Security Dialogue in Accra.
He also held discussions with Members of Parliament (MPs) from both sides of the political spectrum, highlighting the UK Government’s values for democracy in Ghana and the importance of free, fair and peaceful elections in the general elections scheduled for later this year. emphasized its importance.
