UN-Habitat Bahrain and Naseej, the MENA region’s first fully integrated real estate and infrastructure development company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in conjunction with Cityscape Bahrain.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation between UN-Habitat and the private sector to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2021-2024 signed with Bahrain.
The objectives of the MoU include raising awareness and engaging the private sector to make Bahrain’s cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Another objective of the MoU is to identify priority areas for pilot projects and resource mobilization to support sustainable, smart and inclusive cities and communities in Bahrain.
In an interview with the Daily Tribune, UN-Habitat Bahrain Director Dr Fernanda Ronaldoni said the private sector has an important role to play in sustainable development. “Developers and investors must continue to meet society’s expectations for sustainable development, especially when those expectations are evolving as rapidly as they are today,” she said.
This MoU is an important step forward in promoting sustainable urban development in Bahrain. This is expected to lead to stronger collaboration between UN-Habitat and the private sector, as well as the development of innovative projects that will make Bahrain’s cities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
