MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont sports fans will be able to bet online early next year when mobile sports betting begins in the state on Jan. 11, Republican Gov. Phil Scott announced Tuesday.
He said the state Liquor and Lottery Department has selected DraftKings and Fanatics Sportsbook to operate a mobile sports betting platform in Vermont.
“I first proposed legalizing sports betting in Vermont several years ago, and I’m happy to see it become a reality,” Scott said in a statement. “Vermonters and visitors alike will soon have access to a regulated sports betting market that comes with important consumer protections and generates revenue for the state.”
In June, he signed a bill legalizing online sports betting in Vermont, joining nearly 30 other states.
The Department of Liquor and Lottery, in consultation with the Department of Mental Health, annually submits a report to the Legislature on the impact of sports betting on problem gambling in Vermont.
Operators would also be required to annually provide a responsible gambling plan to the state, including information about posting material related to problem gambling. Provide resources available to bettors concerned about gambling problems. Player restrictions imposed by the house. and self-exclusion programs.
The sports betting business is expected to generate up to $7 million in revenue for Vermont in its first full year, Scott said.
“We are pleased to be able to offer sports enthusiasts the opportunity to participate in sports betting in Vermont with three of the industry’s leading companies,” Liquor and Lottery Commissioner Wendy Knight said in a statement.
The pre-registration period begins on Tuesday, allowing operators to market and pre-register players ahead of the January launch date.
