The Volusia County Solid Waste Division will hold a free household hazardous materials collection event in October. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on the following dates.
- Saturday 14 October: DeBary Town Hall, 16 Colomba Road.
- Friday, Oct. 27: Ormond Beach Public Works, 501 N. Orchard St.
- Saturday, October 28: New Smyrna Beach Public Works, 124 Industrial Park Ave.
Residents can bring in paint, solvents, car and household batteries, pool chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, gasoline, other household chemicals, and up to 10 fluorescent light bulbs.
Only unmixed household hazardous waste will be accepted. Insulin needles will only be accepted in approved containers and containers will not be returned.
In addition, Volusia County Solid Waste provides residents with free year-round disposal of their household hazardous waste at the Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road in Port Orange, or the West Volusia Transfer Station, 3151 E. New York Ave., DeLand. can.
The landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The transfer station is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both facilities offer a free paint change program and e-waste recycling.
