BYU women’s basketball crushed Weber State from game to halftime on Friday morning in Provo, winning 77-49.
Kenda Parra’s eight first-half points were the beacon of a disastrous first half for Weber State (0-2) as BYU (2-0) took a 45-14 lead into halftime.
BYU shot 17-of-26 (65%) in the first half, while WSU shot 5-of-23 (22%).
The Wildcats won the third quarter 20-16 to prevent the lead from increasing any further.
Parra and Jadyn Matthews each scored 11 points to lead Weber State, with Matthews making 3 of 5 from the 3-point line. Laura Taylor and Darin Hickok each scored eight points, and Sierra Davis added seven total points.
Star forward Lauren Gustin led BYU with 24 points and 12 rebounds in 29 minutes, making 10 of 13 from the floor. Freshman guard Kylie Woolston made four 3-pointers en route to scoring 19 points, including 10 in the first quarter.
Fremont High School graduate Emma Calvert totaled seven points and two rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench for the Cougars.
WSU won the turnover battle 16-15.
BYU hosts Utah Valley next Tuesday.
Weber State will next face Boise State (1-0) on Monday night.
